RisqHydro is a project led by the Diputació de Lleida, through its Economic Promotion Board, with a budget of 519,408 euros and which aims to establish a warning system by installing a network of 30 sensors and weather stations, as well as the definition of flood alert civil protection protocols in order to avoid personal injuries and to minimize the damage that can be caused due to possible rivers floods.

The project is based on the experience generated during the flooding of June 2013 that took place in the rivers Garonne, Noguera Pallaresa and Noguera Ribagorçana; an episode that showed how the information of an alert system prototype of hydrological risks provided information with enough time to take the necessary measures to prevent personal injury and on economic activities developed in the Pyrenees’ valleys. So, when the third convocation of POCTEFA 2007-2013 was opened, the possibility of constructing a proposal, that was actually chosen, became useful.

In this project, they are involved the Economic Promotion Board of the Diputació de Lleida, the General Council of Aran, The Rural District Council of Pallars Sobirà, The Rural District Council of Pallars Jussà, The Rural District Council of Alta Ribagorça, The Rural District Council of Alt Urgell and the Communaute de Communes de Saint Beat. They have also shown interest the Directorate General of Civil Protection of the Catalan Government, the Catalan Water Agency and the Department of Hâute Garonne.

Next 4 and 5 September 2015 an international seminar on hydrological risk management in mountain areas will be held. The event will be used as a basis to evaluate and discuss the results of the project, share experiences with other mountain border areas and lay the foundations for other projects in the field of associated services, security and civil protection.//
